PROJECT: King George V Lock Gate Removal LOCATION: KGV Dock, London CLIENT: Taylor Woodrow VALUE: £650,000 PROJECT OVERVIEW: CMP were contracted to remove 2 redundant steel lock gates weighing 350t each with the gates still resting in an upright position and install 2 new replacement gates.
WORKS DESCRIPTION:
Install 2 cofferdams to isolate the dock
Open and vent gates
Remove mud from the external chambers within the gate and dispose of in the Thames
Working from the top of the gate, each section was then cut away using oxy-propane
As each section was cut away, it was then crane lifted onto the quay edge using a specially designed lifting frame
Works progressed from the top of the gates down to the bottom of the dock until the complete gates had been removed
Install 2 new replacement gates
Remove cofferdams
