PROJECT: King George V Lock Gate Removal

PROJECT OVERVIEW: CMP were contracted to remove 2 redundant steel lock gates weighing 350t each with the gates still resting in an upright position and install 2 new replacement gates.

WORKS DESCRIPTION:

  • Install 2 cofferdams to isolate the dock
  • Open and vent gates
  • Remove mud from the external chambers within the gate and dispose of in the Thames
  • Working from the top of the gate, each section was then cut away using oxy-propane
  • As each section was cut away, it was then crane lifted onto the quay edge using a specially designed lifting frame
  • Works progressed from the top of the gates down to the bottom of the dock until the complete gates had been removed
  • Install 2 new replacement gates
  • Remove cofferdams
